- Ensure you do a proper “exit interview” with your current coaching staff. The grass isn’t greener so ensure you conduct yourself properly.
- Work with the compliance department to understand documentation, timelines and more to ensure you officially get entered in the transfer portal or get your “release” depending on the level of competition you are playing at.
- Ensure you plan the remained of the semester. Timing of finals, ensuring you get finish strong academically. Can or should you take your finals early? Do you have a copy of your transcript so that your future schools can review to ensure you can have credits transfer in?
- Collect film! Game film, practice film, HS and club film. Make sure you have a current highlight with a mix of High School and College film and pin that to your social profile.
- Be proactive. Don’t sit back. Coaches want to know “why” you’re transferring and want to hear that from “you”! Call, Text, Email and do this aggressively within the first couple of weeks as much as you can.
- Ensure your trusted advisors, High School Coaches know you are transferring and are in the loop with your desired new destination.
- Be active on social media. Post clips, raw footage (record things to your phone) and share multiple times per week.
- Understand that visits to these schools will be a “business trip”. Make sure you have a calendar in your mind one when you could visit schools.
- Be smart with overestimating what NIL will mean in recruiting. Focus on location and playing opportunity first. Keep the priority the priority.
- Keep your family in the loop. Communicate with your core group!
